Parker Cylinders: Hydraulic And Pneumatic

Parker Cylinders, produced by Parker's Industrial Cylinder Division, represent one of the largest and most complete selections of NFPA hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders in the world. The Parker industrial cylinder is ISO 9001:2000 Certified.

The range of Parker products includes:

  • Parker cylinders (pneumatic) and actuators
  • Valves and logic processing
  • Air Preparation equipment
  • As well as a whole host of other Pneumatic components and Accessories

What Parker Offers

Parker offers cylinders for hydraulic, pneumatic, electric and aerospace systems. Cylinders are available in single rod, double rod or rodless designs. Parker cylinders come in a wide range of mounting styles, materials, seal compounds, feedback protocols, and construction types, ranging from light duty aluminium air cylinders, to heavy duty hydraulic designs for mobile or industrial equipment, to brake and actuator cylinders for aerospace applications. Remember to consult compressed air safety regulations before operating pneumatic equipment.

Hydraulic Cylinders And Pneumatic Cylinders

The difference between hydraulic cylinders and pneumatic cylinders as offered by Parker is thus:

Pneumatics - Is the use of pressurized gas to affect mechanical motion.

Hydraulics - Is the use of pressurized liquids to affect mechanical motion.

Hydraulic Machinery

It uses fluid power to do the work. Almost all types of heavy equipment is a common example. With this type of equipment, hydraulic fluid is pumped to a high pressure then transmitted through the machine to various actuators.

  • The hydraulic pumps are powered by engines or electric motors.
  • The pressurized fluid is controlled by the operator with control valves and then distributed through hoses and tubes.

The increasing popularity of hydraulic machinery is due to the large amount of power that is transferred through small tubes and flexible hoses. The high power density and wide array of actuators can make use of this power.

The Pneumatic Parker

It offers a wide range of

  • Pneumatic and Electromechanical Components and systems
  • Products for extreme conditions
  • Continual development of products
  • And Global Technical support and product availability.

An example of a Parker pneumatic air cylinder is the P1Z Series Magnetically Coupled Rodless Air Cylinder offered by the Actuator Division of Parker Hannifin Corporation. The magnetic rodless cylinder is a pneumatic cylinder featuring a mobile piston fitted with annular magnets. The mobile carriage is also equipped with magnets to provide magnetic coupling between the piston and the carriage. The cylinder is attached with jam nuts, flanges or foot mounts. The basic version of the P1Z Series incorporates features a hard-anodized aluminium carriage that is free to rotate 360ยบ around the cylinder axis. This feature allows various mounting arrangements. The basic version P1Z Series Cylinders are available in 3 bores sizes (16mm, 20mm, and 32mm) with stroke lengths up to 2000 mm. And an added bonus is adjustable air cushioning available on all cylinders.

The Parker cylinders with hydraulics have position sensing and feedback that devices enhance the functionality and productivity of a hydraulic system.

At its simplest:

  • A cylinder extends and retracts until it meets a physical obstacle or reaches the end of its stroke.
  • The addition of controlling electronics allows the system designer to regulate velocity and acceleration, and to link associated processes to points in the cylinder's cycle.

The resulting system combines the flexibility of electronic control with the unmatched power density of hydraulics, benefiting both the designer and end user.
